Climate Change and Sustainability of Fisheries

This new course will be offered from July 2016 in Republic of Korea at the  Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan. The course content has been discussed at a workshop in Busan, 2014 and in the Annual Meeting of UNCECAR in Malaysia in 2015.

The course information is provided below. 

1. Course duration

ㆍ    2 weeks (1 course-2credit) 15 sessions 150 min / session

2. Assessment

ㆍ    Attendance (10%)

ㆍ    Group and/or individual presentation (30%)

ㆍ    Exam (multiple choice + answer) (30%)

ㆍ    Final paper (1,500-2,000 words) (30%)

3. Target Applicants for this course are those who:

ㆍ    Are postgraduate students, researchers, government officials;

ㆍ    Wish to deepen their knowledge on, and gain practical training in fisheries and climate change

4. Expected number of students

ㆍ    15-20 students

8. Programme Expected Outcomes

ㆍ    Evaluate effects of climate change on aquatic environment

ㆍ    Analyze fisheries systems and evaluate the vulnerability to climate change

ㆍ    Analyze the interactions between climate change and biological process of fish populations

ㆍ    Describe the potential impact of changing climate on conservation and management of aquatic resources

ㆍ    Integrate biological, ecological and socio-economic concepts into conservation and management strategies

ㆍ    Evaluate the effectiveness of current conservation and management strategies to respond to climate change

ㆍ    Be able to develop governance instruments and policies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change
