Overview

The water system in the upstream reaches includes surface runoff, generated as streams and the groundwater which emerges as springs in the terraces and the villages. The surface runoff is channeled into the villages through an extensive network of channels and ditches or ponds. These ponds augment the supply of water during the dry season. This has been accounted for while modeling and analyzing the availability of water in these reaches. Water availability is found to be fairly distributed and the contribution of groundwater is significant.
